McLernons has a long and proud history of serving community pharmacy on the island of Ireland – a history which dates back over a century and spans five generations.
In that way, we closely mirror many of our pharmacy customers, working with the sons and daughters, grandsons and granddaughters of some of our original customers!
We believe that it is this growth, alongside our customers, which helps inform everything we do and ensures that we continue to evolve our business as we help grow yours.
Our interest in pharmacy politics and passion for IT development has been in evidence right back to the very first ‘computer’ in pharmacy, which we introduced in 1982.
Since then, we brought the very latest in technology into the dispensary – they were cutting edge and revolutionary at the time though some of these had 1/100th the capability of today’s mobile phone!
From the Genie, through the Alchemist in NI and PharmAssist in RoI, right through to the first iteration of a Windows-based system in 2008, we have constantly tasked our in-house team of developers to find new ways to facilitate the smooth running of your business, both in the dispensary and in the retail arena with highly innovative ordering, stock control and price enquiry systems.
Since 2008 we have continued to innovate, upgrading Prophet, which was our DOS-based EPOS system to McLernons Retail, a Windows version, and introducing McLernons Head Office, which covers both dispensing and retail systems and gives our customers control over every aspect of their business. Several times a year we push out new versions of our software programmes to reflect new trends and keep our customers updated.
In 2015 our e-prescribing software was recognised as the national standard of Electronic Transmission of Prescriptions in RoI and we are waiting and ready to roll this out as soon as the Department of Health gives the go-ahead for the national programme.
MediMarshal, our patient-centred app, was launched in 2019 and is now used by over 150, 000 patients to re-order their prescriptions and access their dispensing history.
We see great merit in supporting our customers in many ways – from sponsorship of awards which recognise the excellent work that they do, to the donation of pharmacy systems in all six Schools of Pharmacy (Trinity, UCD, UCC, College of Surgeons, Queens and University of Ulster). We see the encouragement of innovation among pharmacists and learning among students to be intrinsic to the relationships we have with pharmacy.
In addition, we have partnered with companies that specialise in dispensing software, pharmacy robotics and automation and other associated IT developers right across the globe, and our own software solutions are being used in places as far away as Tristan da Cunha and across South Africa.
We are very proud of our history as a family business, and of the fact that many of our staff have been with us for over twenty years, and that for the great majority of our customers we are the only pharmacy IT supplier that they have ever trusted to help run their businesses.
